This invention provides for the creation of world-wide-web servers that can be run from CD-ROM, DVD or other static storage device without requiring installation to dynamic storage devices such as computer hard-drives. The invention also provides for storage devices such as CD ROMS (R and RW CDROMS) and EPROMS having a server program resident on the storage device.
